Ms. P. P. Gomathi, who had a very successful career as an English teacher in various Government Colleges in the erstwhile Madras Presidency and in Karnataka such as Victoria College, Palakkad, Government College, Mangaluru (now University College) and Maharani’s College for Women, Bengaluru, and as Principal in Besant College for Women, Mangaluru (on Deputation), had always held the cause of women’s education and empowerment as an ideal and a burning desire close to her heart. It was only natural that even after retirement in 1984 she chose to work as the Secretary of National Women’s Education Society, Mangaluru, which manages a number of educational institutions for girls. She served in that capacity till her death in October 2014.

In pursuit of her ideal and wish, her two younger brothers, Dr. P. P. Divakaran and P. P. Sudhakaran, a nephew, P. A. Gopinath, and a sister-in-law, Zarina Sudhakaran, decided to perpetuate her memory by starting a Trust named ‘P. P. Gomathi Memorial Education Trust’ with an initial corpus fund of Rs. 20,15,000/- (Rs. Twenty lakhs and fifteen thousand). It is instituted at Mangaluru.
